Citizens Against Police Abuse - Accomplishments
- No more roadblocks (w/ help of Supreme Ct.).
- Represented affected people in the community-oriented policing plan that the Mayor made a public commitment to implement.
- Helped start the process of ending racial profiling by lobbying successfully the legislature.
- Researched the drug war, the criminal justice system, police misconduct and solutions.

- Contributed to the removal of pro-police brutality Police Chief Gene Sherard.
- Passage of independent Civilian Review Board to investigate police abuse.
- Built solidarity with other social justice groups in KY and in the region such as in Cincinnati.
- Fought the mayor's and police's attempt to lockdown the West End during the KY Derby.
- Monitored police behavior during the Derby and maintained a visible presence at Derby festivities.
- Helped facilitate a relationship between National Association for the Mentally Ill and police.
- CAPA pressure led to hiring of Natl Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives to review and revise police use-of-force policies.
- CAPA pressure led to changes in the LPD's use-of-force policies.
- Sponsored October 22nd events (National Day of Action Against Police Brutality).
- Raised public awareness about high-profile cases that ended in settlements from the city.
- Organized and participated in non-violent direct action.
