Welcome to the Louisville Peace Web!  If you're new to the site, or unfamiliar with the participating organizations, please take a minute to review the following information regarding who we are, what we do, and how you can learn more about our position.

Who Are We?

The Louisville Peace Web provides a presence on the World Wide Web for local organizations committed to the peaceful and just resolution of conflict.  We also provide a listing of and combined local calendar for local progressive organizations in general. Currently, there are four participating peace and five justice organizations on this website; the peace organizations are:

• Louisville Peace Action Community (LPAC) - is a city-wide organization committed to achieving and maintaining justice, peace and world community through non-violent means.  It has a large, committed base of all ages and backgrounds.

• FOR--A long-standing interfaith pacifist organization, the Louisville Chapter of the Fellowship Of Reconciliation has members from many religious and ethnic traditions. Our local group was founded on Armistice Day in 1975 and is part of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, with affiliates in 40 countries. FOR is LPAC's parent and sponsor.

• Kentucky Interfaith Task Force for Latin America and the Caribbean (KITLAC) - KITLAC works in solidarity with the people of the region on issues of militarism, human rights and economic justice.

• Louisville Committee for Israeli/Palestinian States (Two States) - Two States brings people of many backgrounds and faiths together to work for a just and constructive resolution to the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians.

• Louisville Committee For Peace In the Middle East - supports freedom from occupation and equal rights for all and seeks to change those U.S. policies that sustain Israel’s 40 year illegal occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

 Justice organizations with homepages on this site are the following:

• Citizens Against Police Abuse (CAPA) - a diverse coalition of community groups, religious organizations and individual members working together to build a safer, healthier community through reform of police, prisons and the criminal justice system

• Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression - KY Alliance's mission is to bring people who want change together -  and ultimately to build an anti-racist majority.

• National Lawyers Guild--Louisville - NLG-Louisville seeks to unite lawyers, law students, legal workers, and jailhouse lawyers of America to function as an effective political and social force in the service of the people over property.

The represented organizations have been involved in planning, organizing, promoting, and carrying out numerous actions and events to demonstrate our opposition to war and injustice  from boisterous rallies to peaceful candlelight vigils; we present educational events and maintain liaisons with national groups in their areas of interest.  We stand for peaceful resolution of conflict through multilateral agency and continue to oppose US aggressive unilateral foreign policy (as well as the civil rights and domestic agenda encroachments such a policy causes at home) and are committed to following the human and civil rights situations here and abroad. Each group has its own focus and direction, in the above work.  The Community Calendar is an up-to-date listing of events and opportunities to learn more or to get involved.  Check back regularly, as the calendar is continually updated.  If you know of something that is missing from the calendar, please e-mail the Calendar Manager.

Another great way to keep up-to-date is to join an e-mail list.  Join the PCunity e-mail list to be informed of a variety of peace and justice-related events in the Louisville area. 

Of course, the best way to find out what we do is to come to a meeting.  All meeting dates, times, and locations for CAPA, KY Alliance, KITLAC, LPAC, NLG-Louisville and Two States are listed in the calendar.
