Community Unity Editorial

"The people are the ultimate guardians of their own liberties. In every government on earth is some trace of human weakness, some germ of corruption and degeneracy. Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone."

-Thomas Jefferson

"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home."

-James Madison

"In time of war the laws are silent." --Marcus Tullius Cicero

The Patriots Acts Action includes individuals, many from existing groups like the American Civil Liberties Union, American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Louisville Peace Action Community, Citizens Standing Against War, National Lawyers' Guild-Louisville and local labor organizations, who want to educate themselves and the public about civil liberties, the situations of detainees, and the stipulations and implications of the Patriot Acts.  We invite anyone concerned about the civil rights climate in this country (as well as any local organization committed to human rights) to join us: you would be most welcome.  For more information, email.
